What causes freckles and age spots?
Freckles and age spots can be pestering to most, but did you know they can be prevented? Yes, there is a good amount of people born with freckles, but you take precautions that can prevent the freckles from multiplying over time. And age spots, well they are called age spots for a reason, they develop over time, but can also be prevented.
Freckles and age spots are considered hyper pigmentation. When your body is exposed to UV rays, it protects itself by producing a red or brown pigment. Having too much sun all the time, can create permeant hyper pigmentation.
Its never too late to slow the rate of damage! If you are in your twenties or younger, pay extra attention to your skin and always use sunscreen, this is when the most damage will probably occur. For everyone else, just sunscreen all the time as well. If you are already stuck with hyper pigmentation, you have a few options. First, go pick up a cream with hydroquinone in it. This cream is a bleaching agent commonly found in over the counter creams and prescriptions.
Another option is to visit your local doctor or dermatologist. They offer medical grade chemical peels and microdermabrasion that can subtly lighten pigmentation spots. And lastly, if your pigmentation doesn’t bother you too much, you can always find a good foundation…make up can do wonders for a quick fix!
