WEDNESDAY WISDOM: How To Moisturize YOUR Skin
Picking a moisturizer that is right for your skin can be confusing. With so many options out there, it can be overwhelming at best to choose a moisturizer that will not only keep your skin hydrated, but also not too heavy or greasy feeling. A great moisturizer can help soften fine lines and wrinkles, but the wrong one can possibly cause breakouts.
We are here to help with some basic rules of when it comes to moisturizers!
1. Moisturizers lock in the moisture your skin already produces. Choosing a light moisturizer for oily or breakout prone skin is key to avoiding your skin over producing oils. On the other hand, choosing a nourishing moisturizer for dry skin is key to ridding your face of that tight feeling or dull appearance.
2. You have probably seen the words "hyaluronic acid" coming up more and more when it comes to skin care. Hyaluronic acid is a gentle ingredient that can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Picture this: 1 gram (size of a paperclip) can hold up to 6 liters of water. That is pretty incredible. As we age, our skin loses the ability to hold onto this moisture so ingredients like hyaluronic acid comes to the rescue.
3. Moisturizers act as a protective barrier to lock in all the nutrients into our skin. After you have chosen the right moisturizer, its important that you choose a serum that targets your skin care needs. When we feed our skin our hydrating serum, peptide serum, pigment serum, vitamin C, E, retinol, etc, then you are using your moisturizer to seal it all in.
Products do play an important role for keeping the right amount of hydration in the skin, but don't forget to drink plenty of water, stay away from heat blowing directly on your skin (like in the car, or under a vent at home!), or even get a humidifier while your sleep! Keeping moisture in the skin can help you maintain a youthful glow!
